MY INTERSHIP WITH UNITED COLORS OF FASHION

Mission

United Colors of Fashion (UCOF) is a New York City-based non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization with a passion to locally mentor under resourced youth in New York City about the fashion industry through hands-on training in fashion education; and offer provisions of financial assistance, food, and clothing to youth in South Africa who are living with HIV/AIDS, sickle cell anemia and paralysis.
The core mission of our organization is to empower youth through fashion.

Vision:

UCOF passionately strives to carry out its mission through two core initiatives:

Locally

Education and mentorship to under resourced youth in New York City about the fashion industry through hands-on training.

Globally

Provision of financial assistance, food, and clothing to youth in South Africa who are living with HIV/AIDS, sickle cell anemia and paralysis.
We are very different than most non-profit registered 501 (c) (3) organizations. We use 100% of public donations to fund our programs. Our daily operating costs are covered by sponsors, our board of directors and private donors. Our FREE Fashion Education Program is the first of its kind in the United States.
The organization was founded in 2010 and is supported by an international team of philanthropically-minded, skilled professionals with backgrounds in fashion, the arts, and business.
UCOF’s focus is on improving education and health in order to lay the foundation for happy and fulfilling lives. UCOF raises funds for these causes through our annual gala and international fashion benefit, corporate sponsors, and generous contributions from people like you.
With the funds raised, UCOF organizes internships and educational opportunities for under resourced youth in New York to expose them to the many exciting career opportunities in the fashion industry, and also partners with local philanthropic organizations in underdeveloped countries to help those suffering from HIV/AIDS, sickle cell anemia and paralysis.

  1. Hi, I recently discovered United Colors of Fashion and am inspired by their mission. I applied for an internship with them and would like to ask you more information about your experience. What were the duties you had and what was the environment? Are you still working there now and did you get paid for your internship? Any information would be great to help me! Thank you!
